...having elderly parents tell me, over tears, they are now reconciled with their daughter after thirty years of being estranged, because of something I wrote.
That was a moment of life satisfaction and true reward.
Years ago (in December of 2008), I posted my first blog entry about a Men's Wearhouse corporate party. Suffice to say, it culminated in a glazey-eyed photo of my brother and I, arm-in-arm with the equally affected founder, George Zimmer. (Did I mention it was a party?)
Since that first post, I found myself writing a myriad of articles, ranging from faith and society to web development---and everything in between.
I've always enjoyed writing. I see it as one of the highest callings. Despite humanity's many tech advancements, there is still nothing mightier than the pen (keyboard?).
Throughout my nearly two decades typing words to book and screen, I've seen the real impact writing can have on people and society. So it's been a joy to experience some wonderful moments of inspiration.
For example, having elderly parents tell me, over tears, they are now reconciled with their daughter after thirty years of being estranged, because of something I wrote.
That was a moment of life satisfaction and true reward.
A Growing Suspicion
As much as I loved my work, about five years ago, something deep inside me felt disconnected. There was something troubling me.
I began to feel like I was spinning my wheels. My work was important, but I wondered if I was missing a bigger issue. Was I merely treating the symptoms of an greater disease...in society?
I wasn't sure what that was. The only thing I did know was that I needed to figure it out. To do that, I would need to step away from my work---step back, and look at the big picture.
So I did just that.
I stepped away from my work--blogging, speaking, consulting---for a few years. Instead, I decided to work on my next book, Becoming HUMAN (first draft now finished), re-think my foundations and personal mission, and retool my life a little. No. A lot!dd
More to Come
So. I'm excited to start blogging again and I'm looking forward to writing about more about our shared human common ground.
And so much more!
